The History of The Daspit Family - Footnotes

Apostle of Flanders, born near Nantes, France near the end of the Sixth century, about 590. Died at the age of 90 years. - Butler's Lives of The Saints ** Back **

Probably Isaac Daspit, son of Justin Daspit and Clemence Gaidry - see Descendent Outlines for Jean Daspit. - JPD 1996 ** Back **

Sources differ on whether there were one or two Daspits who left France to settle in Louisiana.  Some family documents indicate that  both Jean Francois Daspit de St. Amand and his brother Jean Pierre come to Louisiana.  This also explains the discrepancy in names that seems to exist in various documents.  See Jacques Daspit de St. Amand. - JPD, 1997. ** Back **

In numerous locations Pierre is referred to as Freire, however it is most likely that Pierre is the correct name since Freire means "father" in French. JPD 1996 ** Back **

There is little information on Jacques Despie St. Amand other than the fact that he lived in Toulouse, France and was the father of Jean Francois Daspit St. Amand, born 1691. - JPD, 1996 ** Back **

Passage exerpted from Charles Gayarre's History of Louisiana - file is text from MS Word 5.1 as acquired from OCR and very manually corrected by Jack Daspit and then edited by Patrick Daspit for formatting. ** Back **

In the Descendant Outlines, descendents of Rosalie are also listed. These were identified from the World Family Tree Archive CD - Volume 2 (c) 1995 Broderbund Software, Inc. ** Back **

In the COTEAU DE FRANCE it is stated that Marian Leroux was married to Pierre (#2) in 1803. Since her daughter Adele from her 1st marriage was married to Pierre #2's son Marcel, this would tend to corroborate that the second marriage was to Pierre#2 rather than Pierre #1. ** Back **

V.N.D. is assumed to be Vane Daspit. - JPD, 1996 ** Back **

It would appear from these family records that Marcel must have been the one to permanently drop the use of St. Amand with his name. Prior to this time the St. Amand portion of the names was still in use, though both Pierres seem to have dropped it at times.- JPD, 1996 ** Back **

This would be 1860, the date of publication of the "Archives of Nobility" document. - JPD, 1996 ** Back **

This is probably Marian Leroux-Courcier. Elsewhere, family documents show that Marian Leroux-Courcier was the second wife of Pierre #1, however Pierre #1 was dead by this date. Since her daughter Adele from her 1st marriage was married to Pierre #2's son Marcel, this would tend to corroborate that the second marriage was to Pierre#2 rather than Pierre #1. ** Back **

This may be a typo, it appears it should be 3824 Arpents - see 1795 Entry. - JPD, 1996 ** Back **
